MachineShop Announces Embedded Version of its IoT Middleware
Solution Allows OEMs and Network Providers to Run Sophisticated Data and Business Intelligence Services at the Edge of the Network
Boston, MA, October 13, 2014– MachineShop, the Internet of Services company, today announced that the latest version of its middleware can be deployed and integrated into gateways or other hardware solutions providing a suite of services similar to its cloud-based service. This unique capability is extremely valuable to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and the maker community which have requirements to run sophisticated data and business intelligence software on intelligent devices and gateways, supporting networks, and closed environments that have limited or no access to wide area networks (WAN) and the Internet.

MachineShop will be demonstrating its new embedded middleware at the upcoming IoT World Forum, hosted by Cisco. Cisco, MachineShop and several other market leaders have been collaborating on a new blueprint that could help create a standard framework and set of APIs for interacting with and managing industrial and enterprise connected systems. An example use case could be the concept of a Fog Computing recently introduced by Cisco, which has distributed nodes for processing data and providing control functions locally. This is an ideal architecture for having an intelligent fog node close to IoT devices to run business logic, perform data reduction and smart filtering, provide close to real-time control of IoT devices, and provide security before data is sent to the cloud.
As data normalization, business intelligence and even API management requirements are pushed farther to the edge of the network, it becomes imperative that the chosen solution can be deployed in any environment.
